Demetrios Karoutsos, Vice President
A veteran of several Congressional, gubernatorial and Senate campaigns, Demetrios Karoutsos brings
a decade of political and communications experience to The Herald Group, where he draws on his
extensive background to provide strategic communications and issue advocacy counsel for corporate
clients and leading industry associations .
After beginning his career in the financial services industry in New York City and San Francisco, his
passion for politics brought him back to his home state of New Hampshire in 2001 to work as a field
manager on the successful gubernatorial campaign of Craig Benson (R), where he subsequently joined
the Governor’s team as Press Secretary.
Demetrios moved to Washington, D.C., in 2003 and has done several tours as a Communications
Director in the U.S. Congress, for then-Rep. John Sweeney (R-NY), the Senate Special Committee on
Aging and most recently Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA). During his time on Capitol Hill he gained significant
expertise in a wide range of complex policy areas including healthcare and energy, using that knowledge
to craft successful messaging strategies for national and local media.
Demetrios has also worked for a large international NGO, where he spent considerable time overseas
utilizing his expertise to help advance the cause of democracy in the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
Among his accomplishments, he advised pro-democratic members of the Afghanistan parliament on
political, legislative and outreach strategies; helped North Korean defectors organize and plan advocacy
campaigns; led political campaign training for candidates and parties in South Sudan, Jordan and Liberia;
and consulted national party leaders in Malaysia on effective political, communications and grassroots
strategies.
Demetrios holds a BS in Business Administration with a Concentration in Finance from the University of
Vermont. |
