Introducing Andrew Thomas: The Strategic Storyteller with a Passion for Rugby

We’re excited to introduce Andrew Thomas, our newest Senior Associate! With a knack for strategy and storytelling, Andrew’s ready to make an impact here at the team. When he’s not working, you can catch him on the golf course, rooting for DC sports, or tuning in to watch International Rugby — especially during the Guinness Six Nations Tournament. We’re looking forward to the energy and insights Andrew brings both professionally and personally!

We sat down with Andrew for a quick Q&A to get to know him better.

Tell us a little about yourself.
In joining THG, I continue my career in public affairs, formerly working at an Alexandria firm specializing in strategic communications and reputation management. I was eager to return home to Washington, DC after graduating from Boston College in 2022, where I earned a BA. My interest in writing drew me towards a major in English, with a minor in History and a minor in Management & Leadership through the Carroll School of Business.

What led you to a career in public affairs?
I was drawn to a career in public affairs through some of the courses that I took during my time at Boston College. My interest in and knack for writing offered me a natural transition into creating content and drafting effective messaging on a range of different issues. For me, the most worthwhile part of a career in this field is the ability to contribute to projects that prompt authentic dialogue and action that help drive real-world change on some of the most pressing issues we face today.

What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned in your career?
I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by incredibly talented and intelligent people thus far in my career, and I learned early on the value of leveraging those around me. Everyone has their own unique capabilities and backgrounds to the table. It’s a wasted opportunity if you don’t let teammates flex their strengths and learn what you can from others’ experiences.

How do you think communications is evolving in today’s media and political landscape?
In recent years, there seems to be a noticeable shift in an organization’s ability to take on controversy and public opinion head-on. That said, their approach must be grounded in some larger strategy; with that, communications support is more essential than ever. Organizations must operate with urgency and be proactive. It’s not enough to react after the fact; they must have a plan in place for when things go haywire and entities or unforeseen circumstances change the landscape around them.

How do you hope to make an impact through your new role?
More than anything, I want to assert myself as a reliable team member and support those around me.

Outside of work, where would we find you? What are you passionate about?
I love to golf and hope to shed a few strokes from my handicap this summer. You might also find me at Capital One Arena or Nats Park as a huge DC sports fan, with a soft spot for the Wizards as they rebuild their team. That said, my favorite sport to watch is International Rugby. One of my favorite times of the year is February – March when the Guinness Six Nations Tournament is hosted. Regardless of your familiarity with the sport, I’d recommend it to anyone.

We’re thrilled to welcome Andrew to the team—his sharp thinking, collaborative spirit, and drive to make an impact are already making a difference. If you have the chance to work with him, you’re in for something great!
